May, Fresh Paint will hold its first design fair - Fresh Design, alongside the
art fair - Fresh Paint 6. In a separate venue, which will share the location
and activities of the art fair, Fresh Design will present selected projects by
Israeli designers, galleries, leading brands and design shops. New and creative
talents will also be invited to participate in the fair, as part of the Design
Greenhouse, which will present items by promising designers at the early stages
of their careers. The fair will be held in collaboration with leading design
schools and institutions, headed by Design Museum Holon, and will offer the
public an up-to-date view of the state of contemporary design in Israel.
Six years ago,
Fresh Paint art fair was founded as a catalyst for the activity of Israeli art
field, proving a great success. Today the fair's team extends its activity to
include the field of design, in response to the need of Israeli design market.
The fair’s goals are to generate exposure, recognition and income for designers
and design practitioners, to familiarize the general public with design at its
best, and to respond to the increasing demand from the general public and
collectors to purchase original and innovative items. The Design Greenhouse
will serve as a launch pad for up-and-coming designers. The two fairs – the
established and familiar art fair, and the new and intriguing design fair, will
be held on a single site, and offer their visitors double the experience for a
single ticket. The site, shared by the two fairs, will be home to a variety of
daily events. Fresh Paint Salon, supported by Outset contemporary art fund,
will host lectures, talks and encounters with designers, artists, curators and
the contemporary art fair, Tel Aviv, is held each year in a different
surprising location, which is introduced to the public for the first time. On
its sixth year, the fair will be held in the new logistic center of the Tel
Aviv-Yafo municipality in Tel Giborim, at the southern end of Tel Aviv. This is
the first time a center of this kind opens in Israel at the initiative of a
local authority. It is designed to serve all the municipal operative divisions:
sanitation, security, vehicle fleet, procurement and logistics, etc. The center
was built under strict safety standards, and incorporates advanced computerized
systems; entrance and exit controls, smart roofs and independent backup
systems, which together ensure full and proper function in times of emergency.
Before its official inauguration, the logistic center will host Fresh Paint
fair, turning its open spaces and buildings into a cultural hub for a week. The
Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality has put the building at the fair's disposal and is
providing the logistic means required to realize it.
Fresh Design will include:
- Works by individual designers, design studios, art galleries and design
shops. Varied projects proposed by Israeli designers from all the areas of
- Fresh Design Greenhouse – based on the successful model of Fresh Paint
Greenhouse. The design Greenhouse will be a launch pad for promising designers.
A professional committee will select the designs. On its first year the
committee members are: Yael Taragan, fashion designer and researcher,
Department of Jewelry, Bezalel Academy of Art and Design; Pini Leibovitz,
designer, senior industrial design lecturer at Shenkar College of Engineering,
Design and Art; Architect Yifat Finkelman,
Department of Architecture, Bezalel Academy of Art and Design; Naama Steinbock,
designer, senior lecturer at the Holon Institute of Technology.

About the Fair
contemporary art fair is Israel's premier annual art event, featuring the
nation's leading contemporary art galleries, presenting international and local
programs of artists. While maintaining a high level of artistic quality, the
fair includes young, promising galleries, and the unique Greenhouse -
showcasing the works of 50 select, independent, emerging Israeli artists.
Further Fresh Paint offerings are the Most Promising Artist award winner show,
presented by the Igal Ahouvi art collection, the Sotheby’s “Under the Hammer”
noteworthy independent artist’s work, a selection of special projects and
commissioned works, the fair’s community projects and fund-raising activities,
and the Fresh Paint Salon, supported by Outset - an educational program of
lectures, talks and encounters.
Location of the fair
The process of
choosing a new site for the fair every year is an exciting challenge for the
organizers and it provides an added value for the visitors. All sites where the
fair was held opened to the public for the first time during Fresh Paint.
- Every year, over 30,000 visitors from Israel and abroad visit the six-day
- 3,000 visitors from Israel's cultural, business and social elite take
part in the preview evening.
- 100 international guests participate in the fair's program for
introducing the Israeli art scene, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry.
- 9 million NIS have so far changed hands between buyers and Greenhouse
artists at the fair.
- To date, 1,600,000 NIS have been raised at the fair for community
