Visitors to Jerusalem will be happy to learn that the ancient city is now home to an array of modern theatre and musicals performed exclusively in English. The Encore Educational Theatre Company which was established in 2006 presents the classics of the musical stage as well as lesser-known and original works, in order to expose audiences to this repertoire and, in particular, encourage young people to become the theatre-going public of the future.

The Encore Company has literally brought Broadway to the Holyland with full stage productions of Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma! , The Wizard of Oz and West Side Story. The Encore group is also well known for renditions of many of Gilbert and Sullivan classics like H.M.S Pinafore, Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. This summer Jerusalem's Bet Shmuel Theatre will be host to their latest musical, My Fair Lady from May 29th to June 7th 2012.
