This day commemorates the Exaltation of the Cross after its finding by St. Helena and the building of the Church and the return of the Cross from Persian captivity. An event which took place in the 7th century. This is one of the most important feasts of the Church of Jerusalem.

September 26 at 20:00, a procession of Clergy and Pilgrims with lights, circumvents the dome of the Chapel of St. Helena in Deir el-Sultan,above the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. (Eth)
September 27 in the morning, a Divine Liturgy is celebrated, followed by a procession led by the Patriarch carrying the Holy Cross to the crypt of the finding of the Cross and concluding on the Golgotha. (O)
