While in the Galilee, Jesus climbed “a high mountain” and was transfigured. Jesus became radiant, spoke with Moses and Elijah, who appeared at his side, and was proclaimed God’s son: “This is my beloved son - hear him”. The church is dramatically located on the summit, over the remains of its predecessors, the Byzantine and crusader churches.
