Nahal Hame’arot Nature Reserve
The heart of this Mount Carmel reserve is a cave where remains of human life were found going back about a million years. Over this period, people learned to cooperate to hunt and gather food and made jewelry out of shells. Life-sized dioramas and a film bring this time alive in the very cave where the ancients once lived, its walls blackened by the smoke of their campfires. Ask the park rangers about hiking the reserve’s other trails revealing beautiful mountain and Mediterranean scenery.
